Who started their giant tomato seeds
Just wondering who started their giant tomato seeds? I will start mine next weekend? Is that too late?

Hi Ray,
Not if you only need one tomato to win the contest and the contest doesn't end till October. Two hints you get bigger tomatoes with staking than caging and pruning helps to create monsters. I am working on a new technique called infusion inclusion transfusion whereby in conjunction with the root system I also feed the plant intravenously while monitoring all major and minor nutrients and minerals. I could almost kick myself for not using grafted plants. Well maybe next year. Do all the participants get trophy's? Just in case, heavens forbid I am not in the top three as something to show the wife given the amount of money I have spent to grow one big tomato.

I started one for fun a few weeks ago. I won't start my main ones for a few weeks yet. You still have plenty of time.

Well, I finally got around to planting the other 12 plants for my HUGE Plant vs. Heavy Prune experiment. The lineup is the same as those I planted back in December (which are now very rootbound in 4-gallon pots - time has not been on my side):
Delicious (6.51 Meisner 2011)
Brutus Magnum (6.25 Meisner 2011)
MegaMarv (5.51 Meisner 2011)
Big Zac (5.35 Lyons 2010)
Big Zac? (4.20 Diaz 2011)
Big Zac (3.94 Pennington 2010)
Church (3.36 Perry 2008)
Gold Medal (3.070 Kott 2011)
Gildo Pietroboni (3 Kott 2011)
Hoy (3 Kott 2011)
Big Zac (2.660 DT 2011)
Big Zac (2.510 DT 2011)

Mine are at all stages also. I have quite a few for the contest in 3 gallon bags right now, waiting to go out. And the remaining will be started this week. My personal best is 3.27 pounds from a Delicious. And 3.13 pounds from an Omars Lebanese. And a 2.78 from a Zac. So, my goal for the contest, to beat my own records.
I also have a couple Mortgage Lifter plants that look good this year.
